In The Beginning
A Children's Bible Story
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was dark and empty, and nothing like it is today. And God said, “Let there
be light.” And there was light.
And God saw the light, and it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. This all happened on the first
day.
Next God created the sky to surround the earth and separate the earth from the heavens.
The earth and the heavens were now separated by the sky, however, both the earth and
the heavens were empty at this time. This all happened on the second day.
Then, God created the dry land on earth, along with the streams, rivers, lakes and oceans.
He created the grasses, flowers, bushes, trees and all types of beautiful plants. This all
happened on the third day.
Next, God created the Sun to shine bright and keep us warm. He also created the moon,
planets, stars and all the lights in the heavens. God saw that everything he made was
good. This all happened on the fourth day.
Now the earth and the heavens were beautiful, but everything was empty and quiet. So,
God created all the fish in the seas and the birds that fly in the sky. And God blessed
them, saying, “be fruitful, and multiply.” Soon, the oceans were teeming with all types of
fish and sea creatures and birds filled the sky. God saw that everything he made was
good. This happened on the fifth day.
Next, God created the animals to roam dry land. He created all forms of wildlife from
great elephants to tiny ants. And God blessed them all, and they mulitplied. God saved the
best thing for last, for he created man in His own image. He placed man in charge of all
the creatures in the world: the creatures of the sea, the birds of the sky, and the animals
that roamed the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and
female created he them.
And God blessed them, and said to them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the
earth, and rule it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the
sky, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. This all
happened on the sixth day.
Now the heavens and the earth were finished, and on the seventh day God ended his
work. He rested on the seventh day from all his work, and blessed that day and made it
holy.
